IMPHAL, December 11: Family members of VDF personnel Ishorjit Chandam who had allegedly shot himself while on duty at his Lamsang Police post have demanded an inquiry stating that the personnel was shot at by some other person on November 27 night.

Rubishing the police claim that he had shot himself with his service weapon, family members said that there was a bullet hole in the back of the VDF personnel`™s shirt.

Ishorjit according to family members is getting treatment at Shija Hospital and that the family has already spent more than Rs 4 lakhs in the treatment.

He had started recuperating, however, the family is unable to pay more money for his treatment and is afraid it would affect the treatment, said his father Indrakumar.

Seeking an inquiry, his wife, Malemnganbi said the police report said he had shot himself while on duty, however, she was talking with him on his phone when the incident happened.

She said as they were talking she heard a gun-shot and her husband claimed that he has been shot at. Their conversation than stopped abruptly, she said.

Later, the family was informed that he had shot himself and that he has been rushed to the RIMS for treatment, she said.

She further claimed that doctors at RIMS denied treating him due to lack of equipment and he had to be shifted to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute.

Once, he recovers, the truth will come out, she said before questioning why he would try to kill himself.

Meanwhile, the father added that forensic science experts commented that the bullet had passed through his chest after entering from the left side of his back.

He said the family had filed a report to the Lamshang Police on the case, but there has been no investigation so far.
