IMPHAL, January 20: Andro assembly constituency MLA, Shyamkumar has highlighted the dog-bite menace in the State that has claimed the lives of several people, and the failure of State Veterinary department in addressing the problem to the Union Minister of Agriculture, Radha Mohan Singh today.

The Andro A/C MLA met the Union Agriculture in his office at the Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi this afternoon at around 2.16 pm for about 20 minutes. He highlighted the prevailing dog-bite menace in the State which has only been compounded by the negligence of the State Veterinary department. He urged the Union Minister to look onto the present condition of the State Veterinary department.

He also demanded the Union Minister to monitor and evaluate the money spent by the department in the last 10 years. Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh has assured Shyamkumar to monitor and evaluate the funds allotted for centrally sponsored schemes to the State Veterinary department.

The Union Minister is reported to have also assured that any individual found involved in malpractices would be given befitting punishment. The Andro A/C MLA also highlighted the condition of the State Veterinary office building and the poor infrastructure of veterinary offices in various places of the State.

Talking to IFP over the phone, Shyamkumar said his decisions are not against the State government. `My demand is only for the correction of the systemic wrongs in Manipur which have totally paralysed the State in every field. The State has no traces of transparency in any developmental project as favouritism and nepotism is blatantly practiced under the leadership of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi`, Shyamkumar said.

He said he has taken a stand to correct the system under the Manipur government, and is not against any particular minister or political party. He also informed IFP that he has received information of Education minister Moirangthem Okendro`™s statement that Trinamool is facing a tribunal case under the 10th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

It is unfortunate that a minister has talked about the case under the tribunal of the Speaker which is still sub-judice, he said, adding that he has taken his decision to resign from his MLA seat because the truth is no small party MLAs can perform their constitutional duties in the State.

He also said that during his stay in Delhi, he will continue meeting different Union Ministers and will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to highlight the various problems of Manipur and the corrupt practices in the State under the Congress government.
