Police case taken up in mysterious death of woman labourer

IMPHAL, February 2: A woman labourer working at a stone crushing centre at Lamlangate under Ukhrul Police Station died under mysterious condition yesterday. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

Laishram (o) Nganbi Devi, 46, wife of L Gulapi Singh of Wabagai Tera Urak Mairenbam under Kakching Police Station had been working at a stone crushing centre at Lamlangate, Ukhrul along with her husband since some time back.

Family members told media persons at the RIMS morgue that on January 31, Gulapi left Nganbi at their shack at the stone crushing centre and came back to their village to deliver some money.

They said around 9 am yesterday, Gulapi received a phone call from other labourers that Nganbi was found lying unconscious on her bed.

Gulapi was also asked to come soon with a vehicle to take Nganbi to the hospital, family members informed before adding that the family wasted no time in arranging the vehicle and rushed along with Gulapi to the stone crushing centre.

They reached the centre at around 2:30 pm and found Nganbi lying unconscious on her bed, the family members said.

Nganbi was rushed to the Ukhrul district hospital but died on the way, they continued.

Meanwhile, family members brought back Nganbi`™s body to her home to perform her last rites, and at the same time filed a complaint with the police suspecting foul play.

Post mortem was conducted at the RIMS morgue yesterday and the body handed over to the family.
