IMPHAL, March 27: Dr Moiranthem Premjit Singh has been officially appointed as Vice Chancellor of Central Agriculture University today and Dr M Premjit Singh has taken the charge of CV today itself.
Dr M Premjit Singh is the fourth and first to be from NE states of India to become a VC of CAU.
Born in 1955, he is from Moirang Phairembam Leikai, Moirang. Dr Singh started his career at CAU in 1986 as Assistant Professor of Entomology and became Associate Professor in 1990, Professor in 1998 and Director of Extension Education in 2009.
Besides this, Dr Singh has also acted as Registrar, Deputy Registrar (Academic), Assistant Registrar (Academic) and Research Co-ordinator (Oilseed Crops) in CAU for more than a decade. He has also conferred with The Young Scientist Award in 1992 on his research work entitled `Studies on Bee Pollination of Oilseed Crops`™.
Today during a press briefing at his office chamber Dr M Premjit Singh said that CAU, Iroisemba is the apex body of seven agriculture colleges situated at NE States of India excluding Assam and Nagaland and in the ongoing 12th five year plan another six agriculture colleges has been sanctioned to be included within the jurisdiction of CAU, Iroisemba and the state of Nagaland will also be squeeze in.
He further declared that another Food Technology College will also be introduced within the CAU premises. He said that he being the first VC in CAU from the state will promote not only agricultural technology but also sports and culture during his tenure.
