KANGPOKPI, April 10: The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students`™ Union, Regional Campus Manipur today has submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also Home Minister of the state through Deputy Commissioner Senapati for immediate removal and suspension of Additional SP, Kangpokpi.
The memorandum signed by President, K. Bowang Kho and General Secretary, ST. Lelen Vaiphei of the student union submitted the letter to be forwarded to the Dy. Chief Minister today to Jacintha Lazarus, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati who assured to do the needful.
The student union memorandum alleged that on April 6 when the students of IGNTU-RCM visited the main campus at Makhan as part of their ongoing agitation under the banner `Save IGNTU-RCM`, Addl. SP of Kangpokpi Md. Zakiruddin came in civil dress and assaulted physically the Finance Secretary and Information Secretary of the Student union without any valid reason and interrogation.
It further alleged that Addl. SP also made an offensive and insulting remarks saying, `What could the tribal students do? Give me the Memo, I will solve everything!`.
Such derogatory remark is against the whole tribal student community and the tribal people in general continued the student union leaders in the memorandum.
While there is an urgent need to have honest and uncorrupted enforcement officer there is also a need to have gentleman officer which is definitely missing in Md. Zakiruddin said the student leaders before wondering what will become of the state when such highly communal law enforcement officers are on the bail.
Specifying the undesirable conduct of the officer such as the Addl. SP Kangpokpi they demanded his immediate removal and suspension stated the union leaders in the memorandum.
In meantime, in connection with the incident Kuki Students`™ Organization (GHQ) and Senapati District Students`™ Association had a joint meeting today at Senapati.
The joint meeting which was also participated by KSO Sadar Hills sturdily condemned the `malevolent manner` of the Addl. SP Kangpokpi towards the student leaders of IGNTU-RCM on April 6 and termed the MPS Officer as `Muscle Wielding Officer` towards tribal people.
The offensive remarks and hostility of the Addl. SP is totally obnoxious and the tribal student bodies will not take the insult said the joint meeting and unanimously resolved to endorsed the IGNTU Students demands which include immediate removal and suspension of the Addl. SP Kangpokpi while showing commonality with the IGNTU students.
Just a mere transfer of Md. Zakiruddin from Kangpokpi PS will not be regarded as a befitting action on the part of the concern authority said President of IGNTU Students`™ Union before adding that nothing more nothing less, he should be either suspended or terminated from his service.
Manipur is likely to witness again various from of tribal student bodies`™ agitations particularly along all the National highways in the state shortly if the Government and the concern authority fail to come up with the suspension or termination orders of the Addl. SP Kangpokpi.
