IMPHAL, 13 April: `Maroi Nakuppi`™ scientific name Allium Tubersum or commonly known as Garlic Chives or Chinese Chives is a boom business in the state said Laiphrakpam Opendra Singh who owns a farm at Khurai Angom Leikai, Imphal East.
In an interaction programme today he said Garlic Chives is one vegetable that needs minimum care and can produce maximum yields. He said that he does a business of roughly Rs. 3500 a day.
Opendro further said a majority of the yield of Garlic Chives is seen in the area of Khurai Angom Leikai, Kangla Sangom Sang, Moirang Kampu and Kangla Siphai. He said that Garlic Chives can be groomed regardless of season with adequate supply of water and basic maintenance. The business is good, he said.
Five persons are kept to maintain the farm said Opendra and added that garlic chives can be harvested every 10 to 15 days depending on its growth. He further said that farming Garlic Chives has changed his living and he has started practicing integrated farming.
He said he is thinking of investing in a recreational centre within the garlic farm as an innovation.
