IMPHAL, April 25: The World Veterinary Day on the theme `Vector-borne diseases with a zoonotic potential`™ was held today at Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic, Singjamei.
Sarangthem Manaobi (Khoirangthaba) IPS (Rtd.) member, International Bar Association , London; Nongmeikapam Jotin Singh, Training instructor, Jone Dog Care Centre, Koirou; Dr Harneth Hijam and Dr Khundram Somendro attended the function as the chief guest, guest of honour, president and special guest respectively.
Sarangthem Manaobi enlightened the crowd of dog lovers with anecdotes from history about the significant contributions of dogs and horses in the advancement of humankind and the overwhelming loyalty of dogs.
Dr. Harneth Hijam emphasized that public health indispensably includes our domestic animals and hence deserves our attention towards them.
`It is unfortunate that we often delays treating our pets`™ disease or problem without applying the same logic that prevention is better than cure` he said.
Nongmeikapam Jotin Singh, the popular dog trainer highlighted the aces of indigenous Tangkhul Hui and Meitei Hui maintaining that it is not lesser than any foreign breeds. He appeals to one and all to stop killing dogs for food.
Dr Khundram Somendro detailed about the various domestic animals and pets related diseases and emphasized that cleanliness in our vicinity is the ultimate prevention of diseases.
Gifts were presented to four selected dog lovers on the occasion. Dr Debrabata Pal spoke on the importance of oral hygiene of pets.
The Blue Cross veterinary clinic will conduct free medical check up from 9 AM on Sunday as part of the two day observation.
