Gwaltabi JAC suspends Imp-Ukl road bandh

IMPHAL, May 17: The JAC formed in connection with the April 30 attack on Gwaltabi Village has suspended its Imphal-Ukhrul Road indefinite bandh following an agreement reached with the government today.

The JAC had imposed a bandh along the road since 5am yesterday following failure of the government to fulfill its own assurances to provide compensation to the villagers affected in the April 30 arson.

Sources said a team of 11 representatives of the JAC led by convenor Phairenbam Rajesh Meitei and co-convenor H nimai had met with the State`™s deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds the Home portfolio this evening at Babupara.

The agreement reached between the two sides include upgrading the existing Yaingangpokpi Police Station to a full-fledged police station, setting up of an IRB post in the area at the earliest, proper demarcation between Ukhrul district and Imphal East district and to provide compensation to the affected villagers at the earliest.
