IMPHAL, May 30: The Manipur Central Jail in collaboration with Art of Living is organizing an eight-day `Prison Smart Course` for female prisoners of the jail which began on May 26.
A formal function in connection of the course was held today inside the Central Jail, Old Lambulance.
A total of 16 female inmates are participating in the course which include classes on yoga and other games to improve their mental and health condition.
Speaking at the function, senior faculty member of Art of Living and State coordinator Roshini Kumar said that the main objective of the course is to enhance the mental, physical and emotional state of the prisoners as they are vulnerable to stress and other health problems. The course will help in easing their stress and various psychological problems, he added.
SP, Central Jail Th Subhashchnadra stated that Art of Living or Yoga is not related with any religion but it is a practice to learn the central meaning of life and lead a better life with positive thinking.
He maintained that Manipur Central Jail has been organizing such course for the inmates from time to time so that they could lead a better life inside the jail and inspire other inmates.
No one is born as a criminal but it is the negative environment which influences the person. To avoid or ignore such negativity in life, one need patience and strong will power, he said.
He appealed to the inmates to keep practicing the Art of Living as it will help them to become good citizens.
The function was also attended by Inspector S Touthang and teacher of Art of Living and Medical Officer of 7 MR Dr Noni.
