IMPHAL, June 16: A newly built office building of Disable Development Association Manipur (DDAM) was inaugurated today by MLA of Wabagai Md Fajur Rahim who is also the Chairman of Wakf Board as chief guest at Oinam Sawombung Awang Leikai.

The inauguration function was also attended by social activist and advisor of DDAM Heisnam Lokeshwor as president, Chief Engineer of CADA K Monoranjan Singh and Sister of Disable and National Awardee L Bedamala Devi as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Md Fajur Rahim said that no one wants to be a disable person and live in a way unlike any other normal person does in the society.

He further said that parents do not want to expose their differently abled children in the society, which is not the right way to treat them as every disabled person has their own extra ordinary skills and capabilities which need to be exposed.

Like any other normal person, disabled persons should be encouraged and bring them in the mainstream so that they could also contribute their part in the society, he added.

Giving keynote address, general secretary of DDAM Md Yunus Khan stated that DDAM was formerly known as All Manipur Disabled and Physically Handicapped Development Association (AMDAPHDA) but from September 1, 2014, it came to be known as DDAM.

He maintained that the association since its inception has been working tirelessly for the welfare of disabled persons in the state.

Apart from ensuring that disabled persons get their rights and privileges in the society, the association is also giving training to them in the field of sports, handlooms and handicraft etc, he said.

He appealed to the people to help disabled persons morally, physically and financially to ensure that they are not sidelined in the society.
