AMWJU warns against harassing of media persons during ILPS agitation

IMPHAL, July 12: Police personnel and bandh supporters should not obstruct or harass media persons while they are performing their duties, as has been reported on several times during the present ongoing ILPS movement, said All Manipur Working Journalists Union president Wangkhemcha Shyamjai today.

He said if such harassment continue, media persons will stop collecting information and reporting of the ongoing movement.

He further said that there are reports of many journalists being verbally harassed or sometimes attacked by bandh supporters, which is unfortunate.

It is also learnt that some individuals are posing as media persons by sticking the press signs on their vehicles to help them in their movement during the bandh, he said.

This is not acceptable and illegal. Anyone caught in the act would only invite action, he continued.

He said individuals who own printing press or work in printing press is not a press man.

He further appealed to the people not to assualt or attack the media persons who are working day and night for the people.
