IMPHAL, July 13: People who had come for financial transaction at the United Bank of India, Imphal Branch during the few hours when curfew was relaxed today were a disgruntled lot, as the bank could not function due to lack of staff, as cited by bank officials.

The customers were angered that the bank authorities failed to make the bank function for the brief period of curfew relaxation and inability to inform the customers.

An aged customer said at the least the authorities could have put up a note stating the closure of the bank outside the gates.

He said we have come as there will be a general strike again tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a bank staff on conditions of anonymity said most staff are absent due to the present situation and even the Paona Bazar branch of the bank is facing the same problem, making it hard to manage any transaction today.

He further said that the higher authority of the bank has directed to deduct a one day salary for those who were absent.
