IMPHAL, July 22: The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has announced that it will organise a public meeting tomorrow to discuss the steps taken up by the State government till date concerning the movement demanding implementation of the ILPS in the State.
A statement of its assistant media co-ordinator Md Kheiruddin Shah Moijingmayum said the meeting will be held at the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen and start from 11am.
It said there is a need to bring out a public resolution on the issue because the JCILPS would like to work according to the desires of the public.
The JCILPS, it said, would like to discuss with the people the next step to be taken up in case the bill which is presently being prepared by the government fails to meet the expectations of the public. The committee would like to properly discuss the government resolution on the present issue and bring out a consensus resolution of the JCILPS and the public on the issue, it said.
It has further appealed to the public to attend the meeting and join the discussion.
It continued for many years, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has been spearheading a movement to safeguard the people of Manipur, however, it is hard to think of the kind of bill, the State government, which has continued to remain obstinate even in the face of a death during the movement, will bring out.
It said there is a need for the public to carefully observe and follow the steps taken up by the government as there have been instances of the government betraying the public by going against its wishes.
It is still necessary for the people to carefully check whether the government has the much needed political will to work to protect the indigenous people, the statement said.
The committee further appealed to the public to continue with the democratic movement until the demand for a legislation to safeguard the people of the State is fulfilled.
