Mao Council agrees to settle Dzuko dispute in traditional court

IMPHAL July 4: The Mao Council has agreed to settle the land encroachment issue at Dzuko Valley at the Tenyimi traditional court, following intervention of various Naga organisation and the recent appeal of the Nagaland Chief Minister and the Tenyimi Peoples Organization (TPO).

`Mao Council had a daylong meeting with the TPO delegates/representatives/officials today at Mao Council headquarter, on the present crisis as the main agenda. After a detailed discussion we have officially resolved to submit our case to the traditional court of Tenyimi Peoples Organisation which is a unit of the Naga Hoho`™, informed the Mao Council general secretary, Athili Kayina over the phone to this reporter.

Mao Council will respect and honour the support and concern extended to us by various civil societies and peoples representatives including TPO, he said.

TPO is scheduled to meet the SAPO tomorrow.

Naga Mothers Association (NMA) had also made an open appeal through media to both parties expressing their concern and appealing for non violent approach to settle the differences in an amicable way.

The NMA team had also visited Manipur and met Mao Council representatives at their headquarter at Tadubi yesterday.

We appreciate their concern and had a very forthcoming meeting with them. Even if NMA cannot directly intervene in settling the issue, they have rightly appealed to us as a Naga Family and as our mothers to ensure that the situation improve and restore our hitherto bonding, said Kayina.

It might be mention that Mao Council had submitted a memorandum to the Government of Manipur to stop the encroachment of the boundary that they share with Sothern Angami.

The State governemnt had responded by deputing an IRB team to the area against which Southern Angami People`™s Organisation launched an attack on Mao people in Nagaland and even issueing a quit notice to the Mao people.
