Indian, Chinese military celebrate I- Day

IMPHAL, Aug 16: Troops of Indian Army and People`™s Libration Army of China came together for joint celebration of Indian Independence Day at a ceremonial Border Personnel Meeting held at Kibithu near Walong near India-China LAC.

According to a press release of PRO IGAR (South), the meeting was held on the Indian side of LAC and a PLA delegation comprising of 30 persons from the Chinese side participated.

Celebration of important National days/ festivals is part of the mutually accepted decisions after the recently concluded Border Defence Cooperation Agreement. A colourful cultural show was organized by the Indian side to commemorate the occasion.

In a significant development, families of few PLA officials also participated in the celebrations. Such interactions between local military commanders are helpful in enhancing mutual understanding and co-operation at the functional level and it helps to maintain peace and tranquility along the LAC, it said.
