Lamlai Khunou chief bemoans MDAVO`s opposition to govt`s attempt to construct road

IMPHAL, August 18: The village chief of Lamlai Khunou, P Mahami and the Federation of All Tribal Youth Clubs, Manipur (FATYC) have strongly appealed to the State government to take up immediate measures and mitigate the plights of the poor villagers affected by the construction of the Mapithel Dam.

A team of FATYCM led by its president R Ashing along with media persons on August 18 had visited Chadong and Lamlai villages to inspect the villages affected by the construction of the Mapithel Dam Multi-Purpose project.

Speaking to the team, P Mahami lamented that the surrounding villages have been going through a lot of hardship since the past many days and surviving without electricity, proper drinking water.

He said at the same time, water has inundated the only road connecting the villages.

However, in such a crucial juncture, the objection of the Mapithel Dam Affected Villages`™ Organisation to the government`™s decision to construct a link road connecting Ramrei to Ramrei Aze is unfortunate, he bemoan.

Mahami said his village is also facing the same hardships as those under MDAVO and need clean drinking water, electricity, road connectivity and schools for the children.

He said the `The people of the villages, including myself have already suffered enough, but we are hoping that god will surely give a reason to live longer.`

The Lamlai Khunou Village chief also said his village has also no objection with the government bringing development to the area by constructing roads which will be beneficial for the villages.

He further fervently appealed to the concern authorities to take up the necessary measure at the earliest.
