Manipuri Diaspora celebrates Patriots` Day

IMPHAL, Aug 14: The Manipuri Diaspora Association, Delhi, a secular and non-profit organisation of Manipuris settled in delhi and its surrounding areas observed the Patriots`™ Day on August 12 at the Diaspora Office, Kala Darshan, Dwarka Sec-3, new Delhi in commemoration of the heroes of the Anglo-Manipur War 1891, said a statement of the association.

It said MP Dr Th Meinya attended the function as chief guest.

RIch floral tributes were paid to the martyrs by those present in the function.

It said speaking on the occasion, Dr Meinya expressed happiness regarding the efforts made by the association to observe such a historically significant occassion in the national capital.

He further emphasised that the present and the future generations should draw lessons from the sacrfices of the great patriots, it continued.

The statement also said that the MP further stressed on the need for unity among the various hills and plain student unions in Delhi to ensure proper addressal of the common issues of the region.

The function concluded with a colourful cultural programme presented by various artists associated with the Manipuri Diaspora Association, Delhi.
