Two held while trying to withdraw money from 40 ATM cards

IMPHAL, August 17: Volunteers of the Social Development Club, Singjamei today nabbed two persons who were allegedly trying to fraudulently withdraw money using 40 ATM cards.

The two have been identified as Altab, 25, son of Md Abdul Halim of Yairipok Singda Makha Leikai and Md Nazir Ahmed, 45, son of (L) Tahir Ali of urup Makha Leikai.

They were caught from inside the Singjamei SBI ATM.

On being asked by the club volunteers, Altab said he was a relative of a member of the Keirao Mating Gram Panchayat.

He further expressed that this member, from Urup Makha Leikai had handed him 40 ATM cards and asked him to activate them and to withdraw all the money.

Altab also claimed that the ATM cards were that of the job card holders of Keirao locality and the member in collusion with a manager of a nationalized bank took all the ATM cards and their pin numbers.

Each account had Rs 1050 and they had completed withdrawing from 14 cards when the club volunteers confronted them.

Meanwhile, the club volunteers said the two will be handed over to the Singjamei Police and further demanded that the said GP member and the bank manager be investigated and booked under the law if found guilty as Altaf had confessed.
