MTOWA decides to ply vehicles on NH 37 from Sept 7

IMPHAL, Sept 5: The Manipur Trucks Owners Welfare Association has decided to ply along the Imphal-Jiribam Highway starting September 7 after the Border Road Organisation assured in front of the State government to provide safe wheel guards on the Barak Bridge today.

The association also signed an agreement today with the government during a meeting which was also attended by BRO officials, additional chief secretary O Nabakishore, PWD chief engineers and high ranking police officials, informed the association.

During the meeting the BRO assured to provide the wheel guards on the New Barak Bridge and urged for a month`™s time to replace the steel plates on the bridge with wooden planks.

At the same time, MTOWA also urged the transporters not to load their vehicles more than 24 tonnes.

MTOWA while agreeing to start plying from September 7 has also appealed to the concern authorities to deploy security escort on NH 37 the same day.

It may be mentioned that the Old Barak Bridge is used for empty trucks to pass and the New Barak Bridge for the loaded trucks to pass.

On September 7, the empty trucks will cross the old bridge and by the time they return the steel plates of the new bridge would be replaced by the wooden plates, according to MTOWA.
