IMPHAL September 26: Tourism Department Government of Manipur inaugurated the World Tourism Day 2015 on the theme ‘One Billion Tourists, One Billion Opportunities’ at Santhei Natural Park Andro, Imphal East today.
The grand function was attended by retd IAS and consultant of the GoM Dr R K Nimai as the chief guest; Tourism/Science & Technology secretary Nidhi Mani Tripathi as president; Tourism director Shyam Lal Poonia and Andro Epa Khullakpa Chingakham Ganthar Meetei as the guests of honour.
The celebration was adorned by several kinds of indigenous traditional music namely the Pena phamshak esei by Gopal & team, Chakpa dance, Leray dance, Louring esei, Phousu esei and Nongmaiching sheitha esei.
Dr R K Nimai rightly said in his speech that the locals of Andro have safeguarded their priceless tradition so dearly.
“Such richness of tradition has a huge potential for tourism to exhibit our authentic culture to the outsiders. Andro also has the edge of being within accessible distance from Imphal” he said.
In the afternoon western music filled the air with bands like the Fringes, PEBET, Penta Fusion and Pulse Pandit performing.
