Govt orders private firms to pay bonus

IMPHAL, Oct 18: The government in an order today said every employer of the factories/shops/other establishments should pay bonus for the Accounting Year, 2014-15 to every employee, who worked in his factory/shop/establishment not less than 30 days in the Accounting Year, 2014-15 on a salary/wages not exceeding Rs.10,000 per month.

A release said the minimum bonus shall be 8.33 % of the salary/wages earned by the employees during the accounting year, 2014-15 or Rs.100.00, whichever is higher, whether or not the employer has any allocable surplus (60% of annual profit ) as provided by section 10 of the said Act.

It also said maximum bonus which shall up to 20% of the salary/wages earned by the employees during the Accounting Year, 2014-15 where the allocable surplus(60% of annual profit) in the said Accounting Year exceeds the amount of minimum bonus payable to the employees for the said Accounting Year as provided by section 11 of the said Act.

It warned that delay in payment of bonus beyond 39-11-2015 may attract the penalty that is punishment by the Court with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 6 month or fine which may extend to Rs. 1,000/- or with both as provided by section 28(b) of the said Act.
