EEVFAM prays for SIT installation in extra judicial execution cases before the Supreme Court

IMPHAL, November 9: Arguments regarding the extra judicial execution cases was initiated before the Social Justice Bench since November 4 and the next hearing has been fixed for November 19, according to the Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families Association, Manipur president Renuka Takhelambam.

Speaking to media persons at the office of the Human Rights Alert in Kwakeithel, she said all together 1528 cases from between 1979 to 2010 were submitted before the Supreme Court out of which the court, after minute scrutiny, given merit to 62 cases as priority, she added.

She continued that EEVFAM as one of the petitioners prayed before the court to incorporate social welfare schemes to the families of fake encounter victims, to accommodate a retired judge from Supreme Court for the remaining cases and to instilled Special Investigation Team (SIT) for all the 1528 cases to help punish the culprit and further it was prayed to study the fake encounter cases happen in rest of the world.

She said that out of 1528 fake encounter cases, 84 cases were sorted out and out of which only 62 cases were given merit by the Supreme Court.

She maintained that six cases have already been dissected by a commission headed by Supreme Court Judge Santosh Hegde.
