IMPHAL, November 2: BJP candidate for the Thangmeiband bye election Khumukcham Joykishan filed his nomination paper today at the office of the Returning Officer Imphal West district.
The candidate was accompanied by BJP Manipur in charge Prahlad Singh Patel and BJP Manipur president Th Chaoba and other leaders of the party.
Speaking to media persons after the filing of nominations of the candidate, Prahlad Singh Patel said the bye election will serve as a preview of the 2017 general election in the State.
This is an important election, as it will send a powerful message to the Centre, he added.
The State at the present juncture is facing the main issue of corruption which is very high in the State when compared to other States, he said.
The Congress though in power for such a long time has totally failed to eradicate corruption, he said.
On the other hand, Congress candidate for Thongju Constituency Bijoy Koijam filed his nomination at the SDO Porompat office this morning around 11am.
He was accompanied by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and other party leaders.
