IMPHAL, December 27: Any civil organisation working for the upliftment of the society should not take the law into their own hands, but rather should work as a pressure group and instead influence the concerned authorities to take up the required steps.
All Manipur Working Journalists Union president Wangkhemcha Shamjai said during a one day seminar on ‘Restaurant na Manghallakpagi Maramda Khanna-Neinaba.’
The seminar was held today at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
On a lighter note, Shamjai said there is a joke that there are more civil organisations in Manipur than stars in the sky.
He said instead of promoting or encouraging mob justice, the organisations should work towards the welfare of the society and pressure the concerned authorities to step up actions against the illegal restaurants.
Naharolgi Thoudang Kh Loya Lakpa said metro cities of India have specific red-light areas, however, there is no need for such areas in Manipur where women are respected.
He said at the same time there are also some womenfolk who have gone beyond the accepted decency level and this needs to be controlled at the earliest.
The seminar was jointly organised by the Young Women Help Organisation and Women Development Manipur.
According to the YWHO president Thangjam Shanti Devi, the seminar was organised in order to discuss the issue of illegal restaurants spread across the State.
She said these restaurants are constructed with the sole commercial intention and luring the young generation to commit indecent activities.
The seminar was also attended by OC women police station I/E Porompat Trongbam Usharani Devi, president WDM Oinam Inao Devi and president Street Vendor Road 5 Khwairamband Bazar Tama Ksh.
Advocate Ninthoujam Joy Singh also attended the seminar as the moderator.
