Kuki bodies lament non-payment of MGNREGS fund

IMPHAL, December 22: The Kuki Chiefs’ Association (KCA), Chandel; Kuki Peoples’ Forum, Chandel; Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Chandel and Thadou Students’ Association (TSA), Chandel have drew the attention of the State government regarding payment of MGNREGS fund 2015-16 in Chandel district.

In a joint statement, the Kuki bodies pointed out that the Central government in consultation with the Integrated Finance division sanctioned Rs. 60,36,22,000 as 1st instalment for payment of MGNREGS to the State government.

It claimed that on September 17 last, a sum of Rs. 64, 07, 28,000 was again sanctioned as 2nd instalment by the Central government to the State for payment of MGNREGS. As 3rd instalment, an amount of Rs. 36, 82, 02,000 was released on September 30.

Although the State government have received a sum of Rs. 161,25,52,000 as Central Assistance for implementation of MGNREGA for the financial year 2015-16, unfortunately, Chandel district have received/implemented only for 3 days wages and 2 days material component. And we assume that the fund is deposited in the District Account as per guideline, the joint statement said.

Expressing anguish to the District Administration for deliberately downplaying the sentiments of the Christian community of the district, the Kuki bodies wondered as to why fund for MGNREGS is not released when the said fund was already deposited in the DC’s account almost two month before.

It appealed to the concerned authority to take up appropriate action against the District Administration for defiling public interest and exalting his own interest alone.
