IMPHAL, December 27: The long lost indigenous food item of Manipur ‘Chini Chafu’ is on the shelves of ‘Make in Manipur’ Your Choice, a shopping store located at Babupara, Imphal. The store was inaugurated today.
Your Choice is one hub for indigenous varieties of Manipur State where varieties of state made food items, handicrafts, handlooms and other processed food items are bought from the manufacturers and sold under one roof at a reasonable price, claimed its Managing Director Th Baleshwar.
He said items which are normally sold loose are sold here packed in compliance with the norms of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Formally inaugurating the store, government of Manipur consultant RK Nimai retd IAS said we should give priority to replace the imported items with products manufactured in the State.
The food that we consume today tastes different from the past because of the use of imported ingredients, but if we promote our indigenous ingredients than we might as well revive the old taste, he added.
All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union president Wangkhemcha Shamjai said that it is the right time to promote State products under the theme ‘Make in Manipur’.
He also mentioned that the role of media is very important in promoting and developing the indigenous products.
The inaugural function of the shopping complex ‘Your Choice’ was also attended by Commissioner Commerce & Industries VK Devangan and Deputy Director Commerce & Industries S Joykumar Singh as guests of honour.
