Trucks stranded at Mao Gate fearing backlash over accident

IMPHAL, December 22: Several trucks of the State are presently stranded along the National Highway 2 at Mao Gate, Manipur and Dimapur, Nagaland apprehending the worst after a truck carrying supari coming from Imphal side fell on a Bolero jeep killing an occupant of the jeep yesterday around 5:30 at Khuzuma Gate in Nagaland neighbouring Mao in Manipur.

According to reports received by the IFP, the incident occurred at a place just one kilometre towards Kohima from Khuzama Gate along the highway.

It is learnt that the truck fell on the jeep crushing an Angami man travelling in it.

A police team from Kohima had arrived at the spot and recovered the body of the man killed in the accident late last night, informed sources.

Although there has been no protest from the any organisation or individual over the incident, due to the reluctance of the CRPF personnel escorting the empty oil tankers and trucks of Food Corporation of India from Imphal to enter Nagaland, the empty trucks and oil tankers are stranded at the Mao Gate.

The stranded vehicles number around 230 including empty oil tankers and FCI trucks.
