BISHNUPUR, January 3: Perturbed by the government`™s decision of renaming Ibudhou Thangjing as Thangting and Thangjing Sub-Division as Thangting Sub-Division, JAC Tiddim; Phamnaiba Cheirap Loishang Moirang; Thangjing Seva Mandal Moirang; Kege Moirang Apunba Lup and Historical Heritage Development Association Moirang have called a 24 hours bandh from 2 am of January 7.
The call of the State-wide bandh was taken during a joint meeting of the organizations convened at Moirang Ibudhou Thangjing Laikol, Bishnupur district today.
RK Rajendra of International Meitei Forum; convenor of UKAL M Nganba Mangang; co-convenor of JCILPS Kh Somorendro; Moirang Ningthou K Ibohal and convenor of JAC Tiddim S Kulla attended the meeting as presidium members.
Taking strong exception to the unprecedented decision, the JAC Tiddim appealed to clubs, women folk and civil society organizations to extend support till the government revoke the decision.
It warned of launching different forms of agitation in case the decision is not revoked at the earliest.
Educational institutions, religious ceremonies, essential service and media will be exempted from the purview of the bandh, the JAC said.
