IMPHAL, January 25: Angom Tombi Devi, BJP candidate in the recently held local body election and her three children who were arrested by Bishnupur police for alleged involvement in a post-poll violence have been sent to jail.
Tombi Devi had contested in Ningthoukhong Municipal Council election from BJP’s ticket, which was held on January 11 last. Results of the election, was declared on January 15.
The family members were arrested for their involvement in a reported clash with Congress workers that took place at Ningthoukhong Ward No 1, Bishnupur district on January 17 following the election.
The four family members were produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Bishnupur on January 18. The court remanded them to police custody till 25.
They were remanded to judicial custody after police produced the family members before the court again today.
Tombi’s children are identified as Dipak Singh, 29; A Aruna Devi, 26 and Sonia Devi, 21.
It may be mentioned that Dipak was allegedly slapped twice by Commerce & Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam inside Bishnupur Police Station.
While he was under police custody, Dipak was admitted to Bishnupur District Hospital and Shija Hospital for treatment.
His younger sister Aruna was also admitted to Bishnupur District Hospital while Sonia was referred to JNIMS Hospital.
