IMPHAL, January 2: During its prolonged rule, the Congress government has widowed more than 1600 women, so what more can the people expect from this government, BJP Manipur president Th Chaoba stated during a one day political convention today.
The convention in connection with the ensuing January 11 Municipal and Nagar Panchayat election was held at Kakching Khunou Bazaar organised by the BJP Sugunu Mandal.
Chaoba said 14 years is a long enough time to transform Manipur into a highly resourceful State.
However, instead of transforming the State into a highly resourceful State which can stand alone like Tripura, the State is still continuing to depend on the Centre for funds, he lamented.
He said it is time to eradicate the Congress from Manipur and the time to exact revenge from the Congress for looting the public since 2002.
Now, we can sense that the Congress era is coming to an end, he claimed, adding further that the people are fed up of the Congress.
Now, the Congress can field only 199 candidates while the BJP has 181 candidates for the 279 seats for the Municipal and Nagar Panchayat council, he added.
Now, the BJP led NDA government is gaining more affinity with the people of India since the last Lok Sabha polls, he added.
The present BJP led government in the Centre is also laying more emphasis on providing sanitary latrines throughout the country and housing schemes for the poor, he claimed.
Chaoba further claimed that Sugunu MLA Ranjit is unable to provide proper irrigation to farmers of Kakching Khunou and further charged the MLA of spending public money on himself.
He further claimed that his party will provide proper irrigation facilities in Kakching Khunou, if the BJP is brought to power after the 2017 State Assembly election.
BJP Manipur general secretary (Administration) M Asnikumar who is in charge of Kakching for the upcoming civic polls, said his party will secure at least seven of the nine seats available in Kakching Khunou Nagar Panchayat.
He further charged the previous councillor of misusing funds of the Kakching Nagar Panchayat council.
He further claimed that the previous councillors have misplaced funds amounting to more than Rs 11 lakhs which was actually meant for the purpose of buying tractors for farmers.
Asnikumar also claimed that funds sanctioned for construction of dustbins and other civil amenities under the Kakching Khunou Municipal Council have also been siphoned off.
He further demanded a white paper and genuine account statement of the projects implemented in Kakching Khunou.
It is very clear that during the last 5-10 years, the Congress MLAs have become a lot richer and are showing off their assets, he claimed.
He further charged that there is no transparency and accountability in MAHUD which is under the Chief Minister.
The political convention was also attended by newly elected BJP MLA Th Bishwajit, BJP candidates of Kakching Nagar Panchayat, Maibam Dhanadir ex-candidate of Hiyanglam, A Sarda Devi BJP Mahila Morcha national vice-president and other party leaders.
