IMPHAL, January 16: Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the Congress has registered 21 wins of the total 26 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats while the BJP won only four and Lok Janshakti Party 1.
The Deputy Chief Minster stated this during a press meet held at Hotel Imphal this afternoon.
Gaikhangam opined that the result has clearly indicated that the people of Manipur does not accept or believe in other political parties except for the Congress Party.
Citing the results, he expressed his confidence that the Congress will come into to power in the upcoming State general election due to held in 2017.
“The recent election is nothing but a lone fight of the Congress party”, he stated.
If the election was a multi-corner fight other political parties will be uncomfortable of the result, said Gaikhangam.
He mocked that the votes received by their rival party was from confused voters who could not decide which party to vote for; he termed such votes as ‘negative votes’.
BJP candidates winning some seats in some areas does not mean that the BJP has made a big progress as compared to what INC had achieved, maintained Gaikhangam.
The Deputy Chief Minister held that the Congress party is always prepared for any fight (election) while reassuring that the party will come to power again in the country.
