IMPHAL, January 18: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today dismissed allegations against Congress minister Govindas Konthoujam of assaulting BJP workers stating that it simply doesn’t make sense for a minister to beat up anybody just like that.

Responding to media queries on the issue against which the BJP has warned of imposing a general strike if the government fails to sack the minister, the Chief Minister said he has personally called minister Govindas who is presently in the national capital to attend a meeting to enquire about the matter.

Govindas has said that on getting information about a confrontation between supporters of the Congress and the BJP, he had gone to the police station to mediate and control the incident and even told the police not to let the confrontation continue and nothing more, the Chief Minister told reporters before leaving the Congress Bhawan where he had attended a reception programme of the newly elected Councillors and Ward Members of the party.

Ibobi observed it is quite a common thing during election time that party workers get into confrontation.
