IMPHAL, January 3: All the Thadou people have been asked not to pay any heed or attention to the alleged movement called Reconciliation Forum carried out by some elements with an apparent intention to bring about reconciliation among the Thadou speaking people by trying to project “Thadou” as only a family name and that it cannot be used extensively to include all the people speaking its language.
In a press communique, Thadou Students` Association (TSA) stated that some individuals with vested interests have established the reconciliation forum on a mission to mislead Thadou people. Their objective seems to find out an alternate name to Thadou tribe which is not only recognized by government of India in 1956 and having distinct culture, language and customs but also by the Myanmar government and a known major tribe by the world as well, it said.
Thadou Inpi and its affiliated organizations believed that changing a name which has been the identity since time immemorial will not be the panacea to reconciliation but will rather create confusion and unnecessary chaos, TSA added.
It also reminded that the Thadou conclave Delhi declaration made it clear that Thadou is not to be projected and accepted on the basis of clan, family etc but is to be accepted purely on the basis of Language and Culture.
All the Thadou community in the world and to the people of the entire Manipur a very auspicious new year 2016, wished the communique.
