Minister lauds youth clubs’ contribution in enriching society

IMPHAL, January 21: Local youth clubs play a vital role in the human capacity building process in the State, Works minister Dr Kh Ratankumar said today during the 37th foundation day of the Ireima Seva Association and 22nd Ireima Encouragement Award distribution ceremony 2015-2016.

The foundation day cum awards distribution ceremony was held at Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai organised by the Ireima Seva Association.

Compared to other States, Manipur has a unique local youth club set-up and there contribution in encouraging the youth and their participation on State issues is huge, he observed.

Stressing further on the role of the youth clubs, he said the clubs encourage meritorious students, sports persons and others by felicitating them from time to time.

Encouragement is essential to make the young move in the right direction, he said.

The youths should be motivated so that they can improve themselves more, the minister added.

The local clubs have also contributed immensely in developing the sportspersons of the State who have brought recognition to the State.

These local clubs encourage the young sportspersons by supporting them morally and providing material assistance, he added.

The government alone cannot do all these things and need help from the local clubs, he said lauding the clubs for their support.

Naoriya Pakhang Lakpa MLA RK Anand Singh said Manipur is facing a lot of challenges due to some unscrupulous persons with vested interests. The local clubs should check such individuals, he added.

The local clubs, he said should strengthen themselves so as to empower the public.

He also said that the local clubs and the meira paibis have played important roles in protecting the interest of Manipur and safeguarding it.
