“Rebuild trust deficit among communities for collective growth”

IMPHAL, January 13: People’s Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) celebrated its 6th foundation day at the Manipur Press Club today.

The dignitaries present are Internal Security, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India advisor Dr Manoranjan Khuman as the chief guest, Col (retd) RK Rajendra, United Committee Manipur consultative member H Ibotombi Khuman, and national awardee N Shanta Singh as the guests of honour with PANDAM president Yumnamcha Dilipkumar as the president of the function.

In his speech, Dr Manoranjan Khuman emphasized on the trust deficit among the communities in the State.

He implored the need to rebuild this lack so that there is a collective growth.

He observed that the government does not have a close relation with the people and that people’s participation is purchased and sporadic depending on their necessity.

There is a need to improve the existing relationship of the police and the people also, he added.

Mutual cooperation will help in minimising the crime rates and improve the welfare of the people, he elaborated.

Several efforts and achievements of PANDM were highlighted on the occasion by various guests.

N Shanta Singh talked about the Zero Corruption Campaign that addresses the varied forms of corruption crippling governance in the State.

He also stressed on the imperative need to focus on education for advancement of the State.

Shanta pointed out the stark gender matrix in the recently published electoral list as compared to the population census and said the disparity of the sexes indicates severe gender concern.

E Johnson, president UCM observed that the State government often responds on a short term basis without evolving a proper strategic policy programme.

‘This needs to be reconsidered with feasible local adaptation. For instance the boundary commission cannot entirely rely on GPS but instead bordering villages have to be consulted in drawing the international boundary for long term cordial relationship among the ’ he suggested.
