Rifleman shoots AR CO

IMPHAL, Jan 8: Commanding Officer of 6 Assam Rifles posted at Sendra under Moirang Police Station, Bishnupur district has been hospitalized after he was shot by a rifleman cook of the camp, this morning around 7.40.

The injured CO has been identified as Colonel Niraj. He received bullet shots on his left thigh and hands and is undergoing treatment at Leimakhong Military Hospital.

He was shot by Rifleman Laishram Rakesh Singh from Thoubal Khunou.

According to reports received by this daily, Rakesh had underwent treatment at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) not long time back. As doctor advised him to take rest for further treatment, he approached Colonel Niraj to grant leave for some days which the CO declined, leading to a heated altercation between them.

Police have arrested Rakesh. Further report on the incident is awaited.
