IMPHAL, January 11: SARGAM plans to host a non-professional singers’ musical concert at the Manipur Film Development Corporation hall on January 16 on the theme ‘Ahalshingeedamak Katthokchaba Ningtham Eshei’ as a fund drive event for assisting the old aged persons.
This was announced at a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today.
According to B Netachandra Sharma, president SARGAM, ‘the event is being organized with the intent of reflecting on our attitudes towards our aged parents.” ‘Several people from economically well off families also send their aged parents to old age homes without caring for them in their respective homes,’ he said.
He continued such a trend of shedding the age old values of respect, love and obligation towards our elders is inhuman and should be discouraged.
Instead we should embrace our aged parents more affectionately in their old age when they need more support and understanding from us, he added.
We should learn to acknowledge their lifelong service and devotion with which we were supported, he added.
The government’s Old Age Homes lacks in many basic amenities in such a harsh winter chill, he added.
Hence we are organizing this event to distribute some woollen clothes, blankets and charcoal to the Old Age Homes, he said.
We appeal to the public to support the intent and the event, said Netachandra.
