Vehilce lifters held with four-wheeler, police maintain

IMPHAL, January 2: Two vehicle lifters were arrested and a four wheeler along with several incriminating articles were seized from them, according to a PRO Police statement.

It said on December 31, 2015, based on reliable information, a team of the district police commandos, Imphal East arrested the two vehicle lifters.

It identified the two as Md Atao Rahman, 25, son of (L) Md Noor Rahman of Lilong Chaobok Mairen Khun and Md Sharukh Khan, 23, son of Md Abothem of Lilong Chaobok Mairen Khun.

The two were arrested from in front of Public Hospital, Hatta, it said.

A Nissan Terrano, metallic grey in colour bearing regd no MN 05 A 6735, engine no E085436 chassis no MDHHSNAW5EA017206 and other incriminating articles were seized from them, it said.

A case has been registered at the Porompat Police Station and investigation is going on it said.

It also said that based on a reliable information, on December 30, 2015, a team of the district police commando Imphal East conducted search operation in an around Heingang Loukon and arrested a cadre of the KCP (Mangal group), informed a statement of the PRO Police today.

It identified the arrested cadre as Mutum Manglem Singh, 55, of Thoubal Ningombam maning Leikai.

Investigation revealed that he was involved in extortion from the general public, private firms, government offices, it said, adding that incriminating articles were seized from his possession.

Further according to the statement, a case has been registered at the Heingang Police Station and investigation is going on.

Meanwhile, according to a PRO IGAR (S) statement dased on specific intelligence regarding movement of a UG cadre, troops of the 45 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) along with Heingang Police launched joint operation in general area of Koirengai and apprehended one UNLF cadre on January 1.

It identified the apprehendee as No 1983, SS Sgt Thoibi alias Leiksingba, 24 son of Rajen, of Yumnam Patlao, Imphal East district.

One 9mm Pistol along with magazine and three live rounds of 9mm were recovered from his possession. The apprehendee along with the recovered item was handed over to the Heingang Police Station, it said.
