AITUC resolves to demand Highway Protection Force

IMPHAL, February 27: All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) in its ongoing four-day long conference which began from February 25 at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu has passed a resolution on deploying Highway Protection Force on the State National Highways immediately.

This was conveyed by Secretary of CPI Manipur State Council Dr M Nara Singh who is leading 33 State delegates in the conference.

Talking to this daily on the phone, Dr Nara who is also the president of AITUC Manipur and national vice-president of the union informed that the ongoing conference is the 41st National Conference of AITUC, in which 2782 delegates from all the States are taking part.

He further informed that Marvariko, Secretary General of World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) with its head office based in Athens in Greece and an extended body of the union is also participating in the conference.

Dr Nara while addressing the gathering today at around 12.15 pm categorically highlighted the problems faced by the people of the State.

He vividly pointed out the unwarranted inconveniences encountered by vehicles plying along the Imphal-Dimapur Road (NH-2) and Imphal-Jiribam Road (NH-37) daily.

He urged the gathering to adopt a resolution on exerting pressure on the Central government to deploy Highway Protection Force along the National Highways.

Paying heed to his clarion call, the delegates in the National Conference unanimously passed the resolution he sought.
