AMCTA to stage AIFUCTO protest

IMPHAL, February 25: The All Manipur College Teachers’ Association (AMCTA) has stated that college teachers will stage a massive protest programme on the call of All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation on February 29 in support of AIFUCTO’s demand.

According to a release of the association, since the AIFUCTO has already started demonstrations of massive rallies at University levels during the 3rd and 4th weeks of February at various states of the country, AMCTA being a unit of AIFUCTO is going to organise a state level massive programme on February 29 at Imphal protesting the anti-teacher and undemocratic altitudes of the Government of India towards the education sector in general and higher education in particular.

The demands are to immediately constitute VII UGC Pay Review Committee, Grant MHRD approval of the CGC decisions on the 3rd Amendment of tile UGC Regulations – 2010 and Amendment to Ph.D Regulations – 2009, Ensure meeting of the Minister-HRD with AIFUCTO-FEDCCTA to discuss and resolve the long standing professional demands and fix an appointment for the same, Scrap API, Withdraw CBCS and Central University Bill, 2013, Expedite promotions and filling of lakhs of vacant posts as per the GOI Reservation Policy for SC/ST/OBC/PWD to ensure access of inclusive quality higher education, Resolve CPF-GPF issue and grant pension to all appointed before January 1, 1986 as per the GOI Policy, Withdraw New Pension Scheme-2004 and ensure regular pension to all. Extend Dates for RC and OC up to Dec., 2015 Grant UGC pay scales to all categories of teachers, librarians, OPEs and other academic staff, Resolve anomalies of 6th Pay Commission and ensure stepping up, Consult AIFUCTO-FEDCUTA and other teachers` organisations on e
ducational policies, Stop commercialization of Higher Education and stop opening Higher Education to private foreign and domestic capital as per WTO/GATS, Restore the original provisions of UGC (Minimum standards and procedure for award of M.Phil/Ph.D) Regulations in respect of research supervisors, AMCTA bas also decided to focus the delayed action of Government of Manipur towards the fulfillment of genuine demands of college teachers, it said.

It may be remembered that the Chief Minister of Manipur and the Education Minister had already committed to release the SCA, TA etc. entitled to college teachers by making correction ofROP-20J 1 and to issue a fresh notification in respect of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), recruitments etc. but not materialised till date, it said.

AMCTA has appealed to all the college teachers of Manipur to participate in the sit-in-protest programme at Imphal. The venue of the programme will be communicated through unit secretaries, it said.
