IMPHAL, February 27: The All Manipur Students’ Union has demanded an explanation from the State government over the suspension of five police personnel in connection with the Naga Students’ Federation row even after the Deputy Chief Minister had clarified in the Assembly that police personnel had not manhandled, arrested or assaulted the NSF leaders.

Speaking at a press conference today held at their office, AMSU president Sanasam Subhaschandra said the government should clarify on its stand on the issue at the earliest or else the police department should stop all frisking and checking in the State.

What is the need of suspending the five personnel, even after the Home minister clarified they were not guilty, he demanded.

He further maintained there was no need for State official to go to Nagaland on the issue. The government has sold its dignity before the people, he added.

The government and the concerned department should also take action against the SP and OC of Senapati district for remaining mute spectators even as vehicle related documents of several trucks bearing Manipur registration number were seized in between Mayangkhang and Mayang Ningthoupham by miscreants from Nagaland, he said.

The State government has totally failed to press the Nagaland government to stop all such activities which will force a divide among the different communities in the State, he lamented.

It is an unfortunate and sad matter that the State government and the police had to suspend five personnel even after the Deputy CM who is the Home minister had himself clarified that they were not guilty and even as miscreants were seizing vehicle documents in Senapati which is an unlawful activity, he added.
