IMPHAL, February 1: The BJP Manipur today approved three elected councillors of the Congress and an Independent from the Sekmai Nagar Panchayat joining the party, said the party’s general secretary administration M Asnikumar today.
During a press conference, Asnikumar said the BJP Manipur SC Morcha president Ayangbam Oken has initiated the arrival of the four elected councillors into the party fold.
The Congress era in the State is about to end, he said, adding that more are waiting to join the party in the next couple of days.
He continued to attack the Congress and said there are several incidents of the Congress misrule in the State which is evident from the recent confession of a State Police head constable to the killing of Sanjit, deplorable law and order situation, scandals, etc.
He continued Congress councillors’ entry into the BJP is a clear indication that the BJP will emerge successful in the upcoming IMC election and the 2017 general election.
BJP Manipur president Th Chaoba said that the party’s earlier declaration that the BJP will form more Municipal Councils than the Congress is coming true.
This is evidence of a political change in the State, he added.
Of the 18 municipal councils and eight nagar panchayats which went to the polls recently, the BJP and its alliance will be forming councils at Nambol Municipal Council, Mayang Imphal Municipal Council, Lamlai Municipal Council, Kwakta Municipal Council, Kakching Khunou Municipal Council and Sikhong Sekmai Municipal Council and Sekmai Nagar Panchayat, Lilong Imphal West Nagar Panchayat, Samurou Nagar Panchayat.
As for Moirang Municipal Council, both the Congress and the BJP are tied at 6 seats each, and a lottery will be held on February 8 to decide the formation of the council, he said.
Chaoba also said that the party is analysing the vote percentage of the recent civic polls.
He further lambasted the Congress for maintaining a stoic silence on the recent confession of the head constable Herojit in connection with the BT Road killing and the February 6 rally organised by civil organisations.
He said the BJP, MPP, CPI and other political parties have already expressed their opinion on the mass rally, however, MPCC president Gaikhangam continues to remain silent.
