CHURACHANDPUR, January 1: A two day seminar on the “Development experience in the hills of Manipur: Problems and Prospects” concluded today at the Rayburn College auditorium at New Lamka. The seminar was organised by the college and sponsored by the University grant Commission.
Today’s concluding programme was attended by chairman of the Autonomous District Council Churachandpur chairman Langkhanpau as the chief guest, DC Churachandpur Lunminthang haokip as the functional president and former member of the Steering Committee of NER vision 2020, Doner, Prof N Mohendro Singh as the president.
Lankhanpau who had returned recently from a seminar “One day National Seminar on Interrogating District Council in India’s North East” at the Jamia Milia Islamia University, Delhi where he had presented a paper said he has been elected for two consecutive terms and properly aware of the problem of development in the hills particularly in Churachandpur district.
He said the hills have been victim of false development promises from the government.
He continued the people are also to be blamed in many instances for the lack of development and urged the people to be follow righteousness so that the limited grant from the government will be better utilised.
He further stressed on honesty, dedication and righteousness.
He said the lack of development in the hills is entirely due to the failure of the State government.
Prof Mohendro said getting mere certificates will not bring growth or development but we should be ready to have vision of development.
He also emphasised on the role of government in improving the developmental shortcomings.
It may be mentioned that altogether 10 resource persons spoke on related topics during the two-day long seminar.
The speeches were summed up in a report presented by Dr Mary Baite who said the speakers addressed many issues in regards to the topic.
She said the speakers also elaborated on the problems of the hills which are political, economic and geographical in nature and that both the people and the government should take initiatives to bring development.
Development of tourism in the hills was also stressed upon during the seminar, she said.
