JSCC holds public forum on MPSC eligibility criteria

IMPHAL, February 27: The Joint Students’ Co-ordination Committee of AMSU, KSA, MSF and SUK today organised a one day open discussion on ‘Safeguarding indigenous People interest in MPSC Recruitment Process” at the MIMS Hall, Manipur University, Canchipur.

Delivering the key-note address, JSCC member Moirangthem Laxman said that the MPSC had invited applications for the Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination only through the online medium.

Due to this several applications were received from outside the State, he observed.

The MPSC is not the UPSC, and every citizen of the country cannot be made eligible for MPSC conducted recruitment process, he asserted.

He continued in this connection, a memorandum has already been submitted to the concerned authority.

Following the demand from several quarter to suspend the examination or append the eligibility criteria, the government has suspended the MCSCCE 2016 until further notice, he added.

However, it is still unclear as to whether the next eligibility criteria will be in the interest of the local people, he added.

He further expressed hope that the open discussion will certainly bring some positive suggestions and opinions that will help the government on the issue.

DM College of Arts Political Science department Dr K Indramani Singh who was one of the panellists in the discussion said as far as he knows, the public service commissions of the neighbouring States like Nagaland and Mizoram have all included certain criteria which favour the local population.

Asst Professor of Manipur College Dr N Somorendro said the MPSC recruitment process needs some major reformation.

He elaborated applications forms should be accompanied by permanent domicile certificates of the candidates as in Mizoram, Sikkim and other States.

He added the criteria should also include that candidates should be able to read, write and speak the indigenous language as is included by the public service commissions of West Bengal, Orissa, Sikkim and Gujarat.

President Editors Guild Ahongshangbam Mobi was present at the one day open discussion programme as moderator. Former Director Department of Health GOM Dr Th Suresh and Senior Advocate of High Court of Manipur Khaidem Mani were also present as panellists of the discussion programme.
