National Conference on Dalit Sahitya held

IMPHAL, February 14: National Conference of Dalit Sahitya , 2016 was held at Manipur Press Club today. The program was organized by the Dalit Sahitya Academy, Manipur. During the program, individuals working for the uplift of Dalits were felicitated.

Member of Parliament , Thokchom Meinya attended the function as the chief guest along with President of Japanese Hospital as the functional President. Padmashree W Gojen Meiei and national secretary of DSA, Y Mahendrakumar were the guests of honor.

Meinya in his speech said that the Manipuris are different from the mainland populace in respect of culture and other aspects.

The public of the State are not at par with their counterparts of the mainland and we are in a stage of underdevelopment, he said.

There are various endeavors from organizations and other Samaritan groups to support the weaker section, the movement of uplifting the Dalits is one of them, Meinya said.

The felicitation today is a show of encouragement for their yeoman activities, he said. Among the awardees today are Prof Moirangthem Macha Chaoreikanba of Manipur University, who completed his Ph. D in ‘ Kanglei Lai Haraoba,’ he was conferred Dr BR Ambedkar International Award.

Dr NB Nongshaba of Ngaikhong Siphai , who writes scripts and novels was also conferred the Rabindranath Tagore National Award.
