National Deworming day observed in Bishnupur

BISHNUPUR, February 10: As in other parts of the country, the National Deworming Day was observed by District Health Society Bishnupur at Ningthoukhong Model High School today.

The observance function was attended by Up-Adhyaksha Bishnupur Zilla Parishad A Brojen as chief guest; District Family Welfare Officer Bishnupur Dr Shyamkumar as president; Zonal Education Officer Bishnupur Kh Yaima and headmaster of Ningthoukhong Model High School W Ibomcha Singh as guests of honour.

Giving key note address on the occasion, AYUSH specialist Dr Umananda said that most people neglected washing hand before having meal which is a bad habit.

About 40 percent people are vulnerable to vector borne diseases from such habits. Children who suffer from such diseases experience lack of appetite, memory, blood, confidence besides short temper, he informed.

The doctor maintained that the National Deworming Day is observed widely across the country to sensitize the people on the need to administer anti-worm medicine to children in order to prevent from such diseases.

He explained that the medicine does not have side effect while calling upon the people to take active participation in observing the day.

Kh Yaima said that the observation of National Deworming Day is important as this is the occasion to aware the people about vulnerability of children to vector borne diseases.

A Brojen while noting the importance of measures taken up by the Central Government for keeping children healthy, said that children neglect their studies if they remain unhealthy.

Students and staff of Ningthoukhong Model High School and several government officials also attended the observance function.

As part of the programme, students of the school were administered with Albendazole 400 mg tablet.

The National Deworming Day inaugural function was also organized by District Health Society Chandel at Maha Union Higher Secondary School wherein school students, ASHA facilitators, ANMs, ASHAs, ICDS supervisors, CDPOs, teachers and staff from ZEO and SSA Chandel and DPMUs attended.

Deputy Commissioner Chandel Robert Singh Kshertrimayum gracing as chief guest of the function said that health is an important factor for development in all aspects.

He urged for human resource development as every person is equally responsible for contributing towards GDP growth.

Correspondingly, students in schools are given emphasis on health besides education likewise for ICDS, he said.

DPO, ICDS Cell V Mingthingla and ZEO Chandel Dr Romy Ngoru were present as guests of honour at the function.
