Police alerts people against cyber criminals

IMPHAL, Feb 24: The Police Department has noticed that many technologically/computer savvy individuals or criminals have been – committing several of digital crimes through the internet, mobile phone, e-mail etc, said the PRO, Police in a statement.

The modus operandi usually followed by these criminals is by conning innocent public by way of sending e-mail messages, SMS or by making mobile phone calls and persuading them to part with information relating to their bank account details, credit card/ATM details, Insurance policy details, Pan card/Aadhar card/Voter ID details on the pretext of crediting some prize money into their bank accounts or making investments which will bring 100% or more returns in a very short duration or luring with foreign trips etc, it said.

In view of the large number of innocent public falling into the trap of such fraudsters, the Police Department has appealed to the general public to be very cautious with such types of electronically transmitted messages or phone calls seeking the above mentioned details and not to part with any personal/financial details as asked by these fraudsters.

The general public is also advised to lodge complaints at the nearest Police Stations in case of any persuasive individual approaching them on phone/internet or e-mail for this kind of information. It may also be noted that while furnishing such details many victims have within a space of few minutes been robbed of all their savings/money from their bank accounts, it said.
