IMPHAL, March 19: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha has claimed that the State cabinet decision to recruit 2306 constables and 519 riflemen is a ploy to garner money through corruption ahead of the 2017 general election.
BJYM president O Malesh said the cabinet decision comes as a surprise considering the fact that the results of previous recruitment process of the police and VDF are still to be declared.
Questioning the government’s agenda in conducting fresh recruitment of police personnel, he said whether the ruling party is trying to cheat the people.
He further demanded a clarification from the Congress on the issue.
During the previous recruitment of police constables, those in the power had already collected more than Rs 5-6 lakhs for a post, he alleged.
He continued if the government is really concerned with the unemployment issue in the State, it should declare the recruitment result instead of announcing another recruitment process.
The BJYM is aware that the incumbent government is facing a financial overdraft, he said seeking clarification on the need for the recruitment process.
The overdraft is such that State government employees will be missing out from celebrating the Holi festival as the government will be unable to distribute their salaries in time, he added.
Vice president Y Gopi lamented that the State government has failed to set up the National Sports University in the two years since it was announced.
He added it unfortunate that the State government has proceeded with the disputed Yaithibi Loukon as the selected site, which has resulted in the failure to even initiate the project.
He said while a committee was constituted under the name National Sport University Construction Committee and has even launched a poster campaign, on the hand villagers of Yaithibi Loukon have pledge not to allow construction of the university at Yaithibi Loukon, he said.
He said the BJYM will also support the National Sports University Construction Committee.
