IMPHAL, March 6: Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds the portfolio of Home Minister launched distinctive ‘PRESS’ labelled stickers exclusively for the working journalists at Manipur Press Club here today.
Speaking as chief guest at the launching ceremony, Gaikhangam said that the launch of the exclusive ‘PRESS’ labelled sticker is important as this will help in identifying genuine working journalists of the State.
He urged the media fraternity of the State to continue extending help in taking forward the society towards sustainable growth and development.
In the time of riots and conflict situations, security forces frequently encounter confusion over differentiating journalists from public leading to misunderstanding between them. The launch of the distinctive ‘’PRESS’’ jacket which was launched recently and ‘’PRESS’’ labelled sticker will help in sorting out such misunderstanding, he said.
State DGP LM Khoute who attended the ceremony as a guest of honour asserted that valuable support from media strengthens policing in the strife-torn State.
He observed that complementary work between police and press will ensure peace and development in the State where a slew of unwarranted issues mar, affecting law and order.
He also said that the launch of the exclusive ‘’PRESS’’ sticker will strengthen cordial relationship between the security forces and journalists.
At the end of the ceremony, Dy CM Gaikhangam pasted the ‘’PRESS’’ sticker on a car belonging to secretary of Manipur Press Club and scooter owned by president of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) Wangkhemcha Shamjai who was present at the occasion as president.
Today’s launching ceremony was also attended by IGP (Range I) Clay Khongsai as a guest of honour, who said that the launch of the ‘’PRESS’’ sticker will prove vital.
