Guv partakes in Holi song fest in State

IMPHAL, March 29: In a goodwill gesture, Governor of Nagaland and Assam PB Acharya accompanied by his wife participated in a Holi Dal song festival held at Thangalawai in Bishnupur district on March 25 in commemoration of the 16th death anniversary of Haobijam Ibohal Singh, father of ex-minister H Kangjamba Singh.

The Governor and his wife came on helicopter from Kohima to take part in the festival.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Acharya acknowledged the laurels brought to the State of Manipur by its fine players, for which the country is proud.

He said the unique Holi Dal song which is characterized by traditional drum beats and dances is not practiced in other parts of the country.

He donated a sum of Rs 10, 000 to the organizers of the festival to be used for nurturing Holi Sangkritan by organizing such festival.

The Lady Governor also handed over Rs 1000 each to two Holi Pala troupes of the song festival.

She urged the Holi Pala troupes to get registered with the North East Culture Centre under Ministry of DoNER, Dimapur to get grant. She also fervently appealed to the people to conserve the Loktak Lake and Keibul Lamjao.
